Former Rising Sun Mayor Omer Brown passed away Monday, May 6 at the age of 68.  Brown served as mayor from January 1984 through December 1987.

Omer was a 1968 graduate of Rising Sun High School and served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post #59, a former member of the Rising Sun Volunteer Fire Department and Lions Club and was employed by Seagrams Distillery for over two decades.

Omer is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Mary Brown, his son Jeremy Brown and wife Pamela, grandchildren Bodie and Lynley, sister Vickie Watkins and brother Gary Brown.

“Omer was a wonderful man whom this community will miss,” said Rising Sun Mayor Brent Bascom. “He served both our country and our city with passion, honor and respect. Our city’s deepest sympathies are with his family in this difficult time.”

Both the visitation and funeral will be held at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun on Saturday, May 11.  Visitation is from 2 to 4 pm with funeral services following at 4 pm.
