Rising Sun Main Street is announcing its first Navy Bean Festival Scarecrow Contest for Rising Sun/Ohio County organizations and businesses. Entries must be received at the Rising Sun Main Street office, 103 S. Walnut Street, by Monday, October 1, 2018. The Rising Sun Police Department is accepting applications for the position of a police officer.  Application and job requirements may be picked up in person at the Rising Sun Police Department on 300 South Poplar Street. Applications must be returned to the RSPD by 4 pm on October 5, 2018. The City of Rising Sun and the Rising Sun Police Deparment are equal opportunity employers.

For Rising Sun and Ohio County residents only, the City of Rising Sun will have dumpsters available at the City Brush Dump from 7 to 11 a.m. on the following remaining Saturdays in 2018:  September 8, October 6 and November 3. This is a free service and the city has added a third dumpster for each scheduled date.  However, you are still encouraged to go early. The Ohio County 4-H Junior Leaders are sponsoring a baby contest during the 2018 Rising Sun Navy Bean Fall Festival.  This first-year event will be held on Friday, October 12 at 6:30 pm inside Heritage Hall on Main Street.  This contest is open to all Ohio County residents with an entry fee of $10 per baby.  Registration is due by 4 pm on Thursday, October 11 at the Ohio County Extension Office, 412 Main St. in Rising Sun. The Boil Water Advisory which was in effect for portions of Rising Sun has been lifted.  The following sections of our community were impacted during the repair of a water main: South Walnut Street (SR 56) from Plum Street to Arnold's Creek. South Mulberry Street from Maiden Lane to Rio Vista Lane. All of Rio Vista Lane. All of Glenn Meadows Drive including the Glenn Meadows Apartments. Sidewalk Repairs Begin August 9
A few sections of sidewalk within the city of Rising Sun will undergo repair work over the next few weeks.  Starting Thursday, August 9, the sidewalk from 109 to 121 North High Street will be addressed.  After that, these smaller sections will be repaired: 315 North Walnut Street, 313 South Walnut Street and 113 North Mulberry Street.
